Hans Peter Rehm
Hans Peter Rehm (born November 28, 1942 in Geislingen an der Steige ) is a German chess composer . He is the first German grandmaster for chess composition . The title was awarded to him in 1984.
Chess composer
Rehm created many multi-moveers , but also works in the field of fairy tale chess . Many of his problems have been awarded prizes. As early as 1957 he composed a five-trainer that was included in the FIDE albums . There were many other assignments in the FIDE albums, which is why he was awarded the title of Grand Master of Chess Composition in 1984 .
Rehm is one of the still active representatives of the New German School (more aptly: Logical School) and interprets it in a more modern, more general way than was usual in its heyday. He often acts as a judge at tournaments and also for the FIDE albums.

Solution:
The audition 1. Kg6? ( Threatening both matt Rb8 and Rd8 matt ) does not work because axb1D! and the white T d3 is tied . Hence the defense is axb1D! turn off.
Therefore the rook is withdrawn from the possibility of capturing the a2 pawn while increasing the tempo. 1. Rb8 + Kh7 2. Rh8 + Kxh8 (The Rb1 has disappeared) 3. Kg6 and 4. Rd8 mate
The knight on h2 is needed to protect the pawn on h6 with Ng4 and thus prevent the three-move mate 1. Rb6 Kh7 2. Rh3 and Rxh6.
This task includes the Prokeš maneuver .

The audition 1. c6? ( Nowotny ) with the ideas 1.… Bxc6 2. Ne5 + Kf4 3. Ng6 mate and 1.… Rxc6 2. Nb4 + Kf4 3. Nxd5 mate fails on 1.… Ra2! . Also 1. Ne5 + Kf4 2. c6 Rxe5! or 1. Nb4 + Kf4 2. c6 Bxb4! bring no improvement. That is why this Nowotny is preceded by another.

1.… Bxe7 2. Ne5 +! Kf4 3. c6! Rxc6! 4. Nd3 + Ke4 5. Nb4 + Kf4 6.

This mechanism of using a dilemma twice in order to first force a weakness and then exploit it has since been called the Rehm mechanism . When Hans Peter Rehm won first prize with this piece in the Schwalbe's composition tournament, he was 18 years old.

Rehm received his doctorate in 1970 on the subgroup relations module and worked until his retirement in December 2007 as a private lecturer in mathematics at the University of Karlsruhe in the field of algebra .
