Jet2.com is a UK low-cost airline based in Leeds with eight bases nationwide. The sister company jet2holidays.com operates aircraft with its own painting scheme .

history

The airline emerged from Channel Express , founded in 1978 , which first flew under the name Express Air Services. It was founded in 2002 and started operations on February 12, 2003 from Leeds Airport .

In December 2004 Jet2.com opened a second base at Manchester Airport and another at Belfast Airport . Another fleet base followed in November 2005 at Blackpool Airport . It now has 8 bases in Great Britain and one in Alicante, Spain.

In spring 2014, the company announced the first long-haul flights to North America .

Destinations

Jet2.com currently operates bases in the UK airports of Belfast , East Midlands , Edinburgh , Glasgow , Leeds / Bradford , Manchester and Newcastle . From there it flies mainly to holiday destinations on the Mediterranean Sea and some European cities. For example Madeira , Ibiza , Kos , Paris and Budapest are served . In the German-speaking area, there are flights to Berlin , Nuremberg and Cologne in Germany, Salzburg and Vienna in Austria and Geneva in French-speaking Switzerland. Jet2.com also operated mail flights for Royal Mail until January 2017 and used a freight version of the Boeing 737 for this up to that point.
