La Bâtie-Vieille is a commune in the Hautes-Alpes in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the canton of Tallard in the Gap arrondissement . The villagers call themselves the bastidons . La Bâtie-Vieille means “La Bastio” or “La Bastié” in Provencal. The place name means a bastide .

The municipality is located five kilometers from La Bâtie-Neuve , eight kilometers from Gap , eleven kilometers from Chorges and 21 kilometers from Tallard and is bordered by La Rochette to the north, La Bâtie-Neuve to the northeast, Avançon to the east and to the south with Saint-Étienne-le-Laus and to the west with Rambaud .
