Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur is a French commune with 2,036 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Hautes-Alpes in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur ; administratively it belongs to the arrondissement Gap and is the capital of the canton of the same name Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur .
geography
The municipality is located around 60 kilometers southeast of Grenoble and on the western edge of the Écrins National Park . Neighboring communities are:
- La Motte-en-Champsaur in the north,
- Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol in the northeast,
- Saint-Julien-en-Champsaur in the east,
- Saint-Laurent-du-Cros in the southeast,
- Laye in the south,
- La Fare-en-Champsaur in the southwest,
- Poligny to the west and
- Aubessagne in the northwest.
The Drac River runs along the southern and western municipal boundaries .
history
The formerly independent municipalities of Bénévent-et-Charbillac and Les Infournas were incorporated on January 1, 2013. In the first is the Saint-Grégoire chapel , also known as the Chapelle des Pétètes, a monument historique .
