Laragne-Montéglin is a commune in the department of Hautes-Alpes in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs administratively to the Arrondissement Gap and is the main town (chief lieu) of the canton Laragne-Montéglin .
geography
The municipality is located around 35 kilometers southwest of Gap and 40 kilometers northwest of Digne-les-Bains on the border with the neighboring Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department . Neighboring municipalities are Garde-Colombe with Saint-Genis in the north, Lazer in the northeast, Upaix in the east, Mison in the southeast (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), Val Buëch-Méouge with Châteauneuf-de-Chabre in the south, Saléon in the west and Eyguians in the northwest.
The place is on the left bank of the Buëch river , at the confluence of its tributary Véragne .
Transport links
The community is accessed by the D1075 departmental road, which follows the Buëch river from Sisteron and finally leads to Grenoble . The railway line from Marseille to Grenoble also follows this route and has a stop in Laragne-Montéglin.

Attractions
- Château de Laragne , 17th century castle - Monument historique around which the village grew. Laragne (1429 as "Aranea", Latin for "spider", mentioned in a document) was a baron's estate in the 15th century and had an inn "zur Spinne" (in the French dialect aragna ).
