The 2007/08 League Cup was the 48th edition of The Carling Cup , or League Cup . The tournament started with 92 clubs. The winner of the competition qualifies for the first round of the Uefa Cup 2008/09, if not already qualified through the league.
The competition started on August 13, 2007 with the first round and ended with the final in the new Wembley Stadium in London on February 24, 2008. Wembley Stadium has been the venue for the finals since 2000.
Tottenham Hotspur won the tournament with a 2-1 win against Chelsea with goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate . Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea .
First round
The draw for the first round took place on June 13, 2007. All 72 teams in the Football League competed in the first round. The encounters are divided into divisions north and south. The games are drawn by means of a seeding list based on the positions of the teams in the 2006/07 season. If there is no winner after 90 minutes, extra time is played. If there is no winner even after extra time, the winner will be determined by means of a penalty shootout.

Second round
In the second round, the twelve Premier League clubs entered the competition that did not qualify for a European competition last season.
1 The original game was abandoned because Leicester player Clive Clarke suffered a heart attack at half time. The game was repeated on September 18. Since Nottingham Forest had led 1-0 at the time of the cancellation, Leicester City let Nottingham Forest score a goal voluntarily. Thus, Paul Smith was able to score a goal after the whistle without resistance.
Third round
From the third round, the clubs that had qualified for the European competitions for the current season also had to compete.

The semi-finals took place in January. The semi-finals were the only round that was played with a return leg.
