Ludlow is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010, 404 people lived there on an area of 57.3 km².

Ludlow is located on a heavily forested plain in northeast Maine, near the border with Canada . The area has a large number of small lakes, but no hills or rivers to speak of.

history
The Town of Ludlow was established on March 21, 1864, previously the area was known as the Belfast Academy Grant Plantation. The town organized itself in 1840. The original name was Northerly half of Township No. 6, Second Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T6 R2 WELS). The first white settler arrived on October 8, 1826, with General John Cummings, an agent for the holders of the Belfast Academy Grant.
At the end of the 19th century there were also two sawmills in Ludlow, but the town is economically characterized as farmland. Mainly oats, wheat and potatoes are grown.
The bestseller Pet Sematary by Stephen King plays in Ludlow.

Ludlow is on the Brownville – Saint-Leonard railway line . The US Highway 2 and Interstate 95 running east to west along the southern border of Ludlow.
The nearest airport, Houlton International Airport, is located in neighboring Houlton . Currently (2007) there are only charter flights. The airport also houses a flight school.
Public facilities
Houlton is home to the Cary Library , which is also available to Ludlow residents.
There is no hospital in Ludlow, but there are several hospitals and medical facilities in Houlton.
education
Ludlow is part of the Maine School Administrative District # 70 with Amity, Cary Plantation, Haynesville, Hodgdon, Linneus, and New Limerick .
