In 2008, Ecuador took partin the Summer Olympics forthe twelfth time. The Comité Olímpico Ecuatoriano nominated 25 athletes in 9 sports. Ecuador won a silver medal through Jefferson Pérez in the 20 km walk , which was his second Olympic medal and the second medal in the Olympic history of Ecuador. Pérez hadalready won the gold medal in the same competitionat the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta .
