history
The oldest finds of shards near the Tüfelsburg, which is located in the municipality, go back to the Neolithic. Settlement of the place on the Roman main road from Petinesca to Salodurum is certain in Roman times. The remains of a Roman estate in Rütibuchsi are evidence of this. Mosaic floors were excavated there as early as 1750 and around 1800. In 1819 a Tuscan column belonging to a manor came to light. An aqueduct made of Jurassic lime pots, which is unique in Switzerland, was discovered in the early 19th century. Fourteen pieces of it were in the lower village in the so-called. House Rytz to 1938 as visible spoils walled up. Roman remains of the wall were also located under the church.
The remains of the Tüfelsburg visible today come from a medieval earth-wood castle with a wall-ditch system. They are dated to the 10th or 11th century. It was sold by Elisabeth von Buchegg to the city of Solothurn in 1391 , and the castle site is still owned by the Solothurn civic community.
In a letter, Pope Lucius III confirms . on October 2, 1185 the St. Johannsen Abbey, among other things, also the possessions in Rüti. The name "Ruti apud oppidum burron sittas" is only mentioned in a document from 1233, when two citizens of Wolhusen exchanged goods in Rüti for goods that are closer to Wolhusen. Rüti means in Swiss German “clearing; A piece of land made arable and cleared of wood and bushes ”.
The village fire of May 20, 1868, which affected more than a third of the inhabited buildings, is regarded as an outstanding event in modern times. Another village fire broke out in 1876.
