Rik De Voest (born June 5, 1980 in Milan , Italy ) is a retired South African tennis player .

Career

In the first round of the US Open , De Voest defeated the French Thierry Ascione and thus moved into the second round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time . There he had no chance and lost in three straight sets against John Isner . Overall, he could only reach the second round in the individual one more time. He celebrated his greatest successes in doubles: in 2007 he won his first ATP title in Beijing alongside Ashley Fisher . Two years later he won his second title in Dubai , an ATP World Tour 500 tournament . At the side of Dmitri Tursunow he defeated Martin Damm and Robert Lindstedt in three sets in the final . His best performance in the Grand Slams was reaching the round of 16 in 2008 at Wimbledon . He also achieved success on the second-rate ATP Challenger Tour . He won six singles titles, and between 2001 and 2012 he collected 37 tournament titles in doubles. His highest placement in the double world rankings was 39th in April 2009, in singles he reached 110th in August 2006. On the occasion of the Challenger tournament in Vancouver in July 2014, he announced the end of his career. He played the last individual game on July 31.

Between 2002 and 2014, Rik De Voest played a total of 25 matches for the South African Davis Cup team . In singles he won just over half with 18 of his 34 games, in doubles his record is a bit more positive with 9: 3 wins.
