Schlosshotel Orth is a German - Austrian television series that was produced between 1996 and 2004. The name-giving external backdrop is the Seeschloss Ort (not actually used as a hotel) in Upper Austria's Gmunden am Traunsee .

background

The series was produced by SATEL, a subsidiary of Bavaria Film , for the public television channels ZDF and ORF . The main actors were Klaus Wildbolz (until episode 69), Albert Fortell (until 2004), Lotte Ledl and Hans Kraemmer .

The scenes of the episodes were places in the Salzkammergut . In addition to the Traunsee landscape around Gmunden and Altmünster , u. a. Bad Ischl , Salzburg , Linz and Lake Wolfgang were chosen as locations. A wedding scene was created high above the Attersee , some episodes were filmed in the Dachstein region and in the foothills of the Alps (including in the Gmös moor bath ). Popular filming locations in the immediate vicinity were the heights of the Gmundnerberg and the Viechtau in the municipality of Altmünster, where most of the landscape shots were taken, as well as the Gmundner Traunsteinstraße, where several houses of the actors were located (including Vinzenz and Fanny Strobel, Eva Tillmann and Clans). This is also where the "Hotel Traunstein" is located, which throughout the series functioned as a competitor to the "Schlosshotel Orth" and is actually a hotel (Schlosshotel Freisitz Roith) .

The Seeschloss Ort am Traunsee in Gmunden in Upper Austria became the setting or the external backdrop for the Schlosshotel Orth series . The first hotel director, Wenzel Hofer, was portrayed by Klaus Wildbolz . However, this retired in the 69th episode from the series to devote himself to other projects. His successor was Albert Fortell as director Felix Hofstätter. Hans Kraemmer played the porter Josef Schimek, who in the hotel foyer (which was reproduced in the hall of a Gmunden furniture store) observed the comings and goings of the guests, the sorrows and joys of love from 1995 to 2004. The studio in the north of Gmunden with an entrance hall, corridor and hotel rooms was later converted into a museum that could previously be visited from April to October. A training kitchen is located here today. Signs were put up at the various filming locations in the region.

Framework story

The series tells the story of the hotel owner Wenzel Hofer and his four children. Fanny is almost 30 years old and soon falls in love with the savvy lawyer Vinzenz Strobel, with whom she is doing her law internship. The fashion illustrator Sissy, in her early twenties, develops violent feelings for a young priest, which however find no response. Son Nico is a cook and a graduate of a prestigious hotel management school. Franzl still goes to school and is the darling of his grandmother, Countess Therese Schlierbach, Wenzel's mother-in-law and main financier.

The hotel staff plays a central role: porter Josef Schimek is reliability in person and the real authority in the castle hotel. Head chef Anna Kofler, who is very close to him, enjoys a special reputation among gourmets. She doesn't let herself be put off by Nico's cooking talent. The teenage boy Pepi, Schimek's cheeky receptionist, proves to be very prudent and rises to head of human resources in the course of the series. Lukas Strizel, Schimek's right-hand man, the waitress Agnes and the maid Lisa belong to the young guard. The talented confectioner Sebastian Frank enjoys a special reputation and impresses everyone with his creations. Head waiter Albert Nowak, Agnes' intimate enemy, makes few friends among his colleagues with his snooty manner.

Kaiser, the operator of the Hotel Traunstein, is Wenzel's biggest competitor. Financially he is dependent on Vinzenz Strobel and the influential banker Sepp Tallinger, who often enough stab Wenzel in the back. However, Kaiser proves incompetent, and so the hotel ultimately falls entirely into the hands of Strobel and Tallinger. The two leave no stone unturned to somehow get to Wenceslas Castle Hotel. Even the windy entrepreneur Höllerer, a wicked intriguer, hatches some meanness.

At the beginning of the series, mother Christine, doctor and wife of Wenzel Hofer, dies in a mountain accident. Wenzel finds it difficult to get into the role of the widower, but is embraced by many women. In addition to the family doctor Dr. Marion Fabian, who advises him to put Franzl in a boarding school, is particularly hoping for his long-time hotel manager Doris Haller, who later finds her happiness in Count Altenberg. But Wenzel does not want to commit himself for a long time and leaves it to superficial acquaintances. Only after Doris leaves the castle hotel and changes to the Hotel Traunstein does Wenzel believe he has found the woman for life. Lena Dorndorf, the new hotel manager, is keeping a secret, which includes her long-secret brother Phillip. After a terrible incident, Lena leaves Gmunden and leaves behind a sad Wenzel.

Sissy finally finds happiness in forester Georg Brandner and becomes the mother of a little girl named Rosa. Suddenly Jacob Kestner appears, a long-lost relative who asserts inheritance claims and wants to intervene in the hotel management. Wenzel manages to come to an understanding with Jacob only with great difficulty. Franzl, however, is full of admiration for the newcomer. When Sissy seriously injured her head on Jacob's construction site, she was in a coma for a long time. Wenzel makes the acquaintance of Dr. Eva Tillmann, a doctor who strongly reminds him of his deceased wife. He persuades her to take care of his seriously ill daughter, but all efforts are in vain and Sissy dies.

Fanny and Vinzenz have been married for a long time, but they cannot have children. The longing for offspring and the machinations of her husband break the marriage. Wenzel is getting closer and closer to Eva. She will soon move in with him with her cheeky daughter Lilo.

The new hotel manager Susanne Neumann, who because of her snippy manner, only experiences hostility everywhere, turns Wenzel's head. He throws himself into a passionate relationship that meets with incomprehension, especially with Fanny, which Susanne Neumann deeply despises. But Wenzel was not deterred and passed on extensive skills to Susanne. While on a boat trip, Wenzel suffers a fatal heart attack when he rescues his granddaughter Rosa, who falls from the ship into the water and drowns almost unnoticed. Susanne, who wants to usurp the hotel, has to lose out to Fanny.

Fanny has to sell part of her business to the international hotel chain Historische Hotels . Felix Hofstätter sends this to Gmunden as the new hotel manager. Fanny enters into a spontaneous relationship with Felix, but has no inkling of his wife Ruth, who is in a sanatorium very close to Gmunden. Only when Eva, who is close to Fanny, takes medical care of Ruth, does more information about Felix's long secretive past become known.

Nevertheless, Felix earns great respect from the workforce. He is reconciled with his recovered wife, whereupon Fanny Gmunden turns her back. Soon Carla Prinz, a childhood sweetheart Felix ', settled in Gmunden and bought the Hotel Traunstein. At first nobody suspects that she is forging a sinister plan of revenge. She allies herself with Vincent, who is still keen on the castle hotel. Carla's son Max, a young computer expert, becomes friends with Felix without realizing that Felix is his father. Meanwhile, Carla does everything possible to ruin Felix financially. After she almost succeeded in destroying Felix's existence, Carla is convicted, not least with the help of her son and his friend Iris, and goes to prison.

In the following season the siblings Ben and Tatjana Prinz take over the Traunstein. Tatjana, who is Carla's stepdaughter, proves to be just as cultivated as she is power-conscious. Brother Ben, who lives on Tatjana's fortune, tries his best to harm his stepbrother Max, who now runs an internet café with friends. However, Tatjana developed a great affection for Felix. Strokes of fate such as Lilo's serious illness, Max's serious accident and Felix's crumbling marriage keep the family in suspense. Carla Prinz will also soon be released and offend her son, who is about to marry Iris.

The holiday stories of the guests who have stayed in the castle hotel are told, embedded in the framework. Misunderstandings, disappointments, rivalries and entanglements of all kinds await a happy ending.
