The Scottish League Cup was played for the 34th time in 1979/80 . The Scottish League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 15, 1979 and ended with the two finals on December 8 and 12, 1979. The first final was played in Hampden Park in Glasgow , the necessary replay final in Dens Park of Dundee . The cup competition was officially held as Bell’s Scottish League Cup . The defending champions Glasgow Rangers came to the 3rd round in which the team lost against FC Aberdeen . With a 3-0 final win in the replay, Dundee United was able to defeat the Dons from Aberdeen in the New Firm Derby .
