Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is a Beatles song that was released on June 1, 1967 on the album of the same name . The song was written by Paul McCartney . However, Lennon / McCartney are stated as the copyright holder .

The piece fakes the beginning of a concert. The group introduces themselves to the audience with this song and invites them to enjoy the show. In order to reinforce the impression of a live recording, audience noises and applause were faded in. The piece finally leads to the second track on the album With a Little Help from My Friends without interruption . At this point McCartney announces the fictional "one and only Billy Shears " to strong applause .

Recordings

The recordings for the piece took place on February 1st and 2nd and March 3rd and 6th, 1967 at Abbey Road Studios . The most noticeable musical features are a heavily distorted electric guitar and the use of horn players. While the chorus was sung in three voices, Paul McCartney took over the lead vocals. George Harrison had recorded a guitar solo in a seven-hour session, but McCartney insisted on playing the solos himself.

Others

Jimi Hendrix opened a concert in London with this song a few days after the album was released . The Beatles were also in the audience and were happy to receive this greeting. They were amazed because he had had little time to learn the song.

On July 2, 2005, Paul McCartney opened the Live 8 concert in London with the Irish rock band U2 with the song.
