The St. Jerome's University (abbreviated St. Jerome's or SJU ) is a public Roman Catholic university in Waterloo , Ontario , Canada and part of the University of Waterloo .

The college was founded in 1865 by the priest Louis Funcken of the order of the Resurrectionists as St. Jerome College . In 1959, the college received university status and was named the University of St. Jerome's College . Furthermore, the connection to the University of Waterloo followed . In 1998 the company was renamed St. Jerome's University .

St. Jerome's University offers extensive liberal arts education and courses in English, history, philosophy, psychology, religious studies, human sciences, sociology, French and Italian. The university houses interdisciplinary study programs, including medieval studies, law and sexuality, marriage and family research.
