The University of Venice ( Italian Università Ca 'Foscari di Venezia , Latin Venetiarum Universitas in Domo Foscari ) is a university founded in the 19th century in the lagoon city of Venice .
history
On 6 August 1868, was Scuola Superiore di Commercio , the first business school in Italy , founded. In 1939 courses in foreign languages were added, which were organized as a separate faculty in 1954. Full university status was achieved in 1968. In 1969 two further faculties were added with literature / philosophy and industrial chemistry; the latter was renamed the Faculty of Mathematics, Physical and Natural Sciences in 1990. Today's four faculties offer eleven different degrees. In 2012 the university founded the Collegio Internazionale Ca 'Foscari to promote particularly talented students .
name and seat
The university's name comes from the building in which it is housed, the Ca 'Foscari , an aristocratic palace of the Foscari family located on the Grand Canal and acquired by the city administration in 1845 . In the meantime, however, other buildings spread across the city also belong to the university. The university library has 50,000 volumes.
