William F. Walsh

William Francis Walsh (born July 11, 1912 in Syracuse , New York , † January 8, 2011 in Marcellus , New York) was an American politician .

Walsh attended St. Bonaventure College and received his Bachelor of Arts there in 1934 . From 1939 to 1940 he attended the Catholic University School of Social Work . At the University of Buffalo , he received his Master of Arts in 1949 . Walsh had previously served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1946 .

Walsh was elected Mayor of Syracuse in 1961. In 1965 he was re-elected. He held this office until 1969. In 1968 Walsh was a delegate to the Republican National Convention and in 1970 was a member of the New York State Public Service Commission . In 1972 he was elected as a Republican to the 93rd Congress and represented New York State in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1979 . In 1978 he no longer ran for a seat in the 96th Congress. Walsh last lived in Syracuse.

His son James T. Walsh was also a member of the US House of Representatives from 1989 to 2009.
