Bellona is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 6106 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Caserta in Campania . The municipality is located about 12 kilometers northwest of Caserta and about 35 kilometers north of Naples in the Terra di Lavoro on the Monti Trebulani . The southern boundary of the municipality is formed by the Volturno .

history

The Sicopolis settlement was built on the hill of Palombara in the 9th century AD. It was located between the district of Triflisco and the neighboring municipality of Capua . Just a few years later, the settlement was destroyed by the Saracens. The Convent of Bellona was founded in 1099 with the Sancta Jerusalem chapel on Monte Rageto.
