history

Schluchsee is one of the oldest places mentioned in writing in the Upper Black Forest. After a diploma from Emperor Otto II of June 5, 983 has been proven to be a forgery, the first secured message comes from 1076. It is taken from a document from 1125 in which the "Schluchsee estate" was donated to the St. Blasien monastery has been confirmed. In the Middle Ages the bailiwick rights lay with the Fürstenberg house . At the end of the 17th century, the monastery of St. Blasien regained suzerainty. In 1803 it passed to the Johanniter von Heitersheim as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Baden , they had to cede sovereign rights to the new state through the Rhine Confederation Act in 1806.

In the 19th century, the population began to become impoverished, which led to emigration and the number of people to drop significantly. Lastingly damaged by hunger and poor harvests, many farmers were forced to sell their farms to the state. It was only with the construction of the three-way cable car from Titisee to Seebrugg, which opened in 1926, that tourism began to recover. Just as crucial for this, however, were the construction of the dam and thus the damming of the lake, which, in addition to its importance for energy generation, also had a high recreational and recreational value.

On July 1, 1971, the previously independent communities of Faulenfürst and Fischbach were incorporated into Schluchsee, followed by Schönenbach on September 1, 1973. Blasiwald was incorporated on July 1, 1974.
