Curel is a French commune with 412 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Dizier . Its inhabitants call themselves Curellois / Curelloises .
geography
Curel is located around 42 kilometers north of the city of Chaumont in the north of the Haute-Marne department. Curel is east of the Canal between Champagne et Bourgogne and the Marne on the river L'Osne . Large parts of the municipality are forested. The N67 west of the Marne and the next connection is in Vecqueville about 2 kilometers south.
history
Curel historically belongs to the Bailliage de Chaumont within the province of Champagne . The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Joinville. In addition, from 1793 to 1801 to the canton of Curel, from 1801 to 1976 to the canton of Chevillon, from 1976 to 2015 to the canton Joinville and since 2015 to the canton Eurville-Bienville. The parish was assigned to the Arrondissement Wassy from 1801 to 1926 and 1940 to 1943 and the Arrondissement Chaumont from 1926 to 1940. Since 1943 it has belonged to the Arrondissement of Saint-Dizier. From 1972 to 1984 the municipality of Autigny-le-Petit belonged to Curel.
