Eurville-Bienville is a French commune with 2065 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Dizier and (as the most populous municipality) to the canton of Eurville-Bienville .
geography
Eurville-Bienville is about 8.5 kilometers southeast of Saint-Dizier . The district of Eurville on the western bank of the Marne , Bienville on the eastern bank. On the west side runs the Route nationale 67 , while east the railway line Blesme-Haussignémont-Chaumont with the Eurville station runs.
history
The place Bienville goes back to the 5th century. On October 14, between 490 and 500, Menehould, who was canonized in 1379, died here . 887 Eurville is mentioned (as Urtis villa ). The Treaty of Verdun 843 manifested the border between the two places: Eurville belonged to the West Franconian Empire , Bienville to Lotharingen .
In 1972 the formerly independent municipalities merged.
