Suzannecourt is a French commune with 370 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Dizier and the community association Bassin de Joinville en Champagne .

geography

Suzannecourt is located around 38 kilometers north of the city of Chaumont in the north of the Haute-Marne department. The community lies on the Rongeant River , a right tributary of the Marne . In terms of transport, the municipality is easily accessible with a connection to the N67 directly north of the municipality border.

history

In the early days, people roamed and settled the area. So far, no traces of settlement have been discovered in the community itself. Since the 7th century people have settled in Joinville and the surrounding area (Suzannecourt is one of them). The oldest parts of the church date from the 12th century. According to the statements of the nobleman Simon de Joinville in 1218 part of the place belonged to the Bishop of Châlons. Suzannecourt is historically part of the Bailliage de Chaumont within the province of Champagne . The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Joinville. Also to the canton of Poissons from 1793 to 1801 and to the canton of Joinville from 1801. The parish was assigned to the Arrondissement Wassy from 1801 to 1926 and 1940 to 1943 and the Arrondissement Chaumont from 1926 to 1940. Since 1943 it has belonged to the Arrondissement of Saint-Dizier.
