Dmitri Vladislavovich Nelyubin
Dmitri Wladislawowitsch Neljubin ( Russian Дмитрий Владиславович Нелюбин ; born February 8, 1971 in Leningrad ; † January 1, 2005 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Soviet or Russian cyclist.
Dmitri Neljubin was the son of Vladislav Neljubin (* 1947), a Soviet cyclist. He celebrated his greatest success at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , where he was 17 years old together with Vyacheslav Yekimov , Artūras Kasputis and Gintautas Umaras Olympic champion in the 4,000 m team pursuit . Four years later he was at the Olympics in Barcelona in the same discipline sixth with the team of the Commonwealth of Independent States . He then switched to professional sport, but without getting beyond a few stage wins in insignificant races.
Nelyubin was beaten to death in front of his house on New Year's morning 2005 during the New Year celebrations in St. Petersburg. He later succumbed to serious injuries in hospital. In September 2009 the perpetrator was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
