Donets (Ukrainian Донець , Russian Донец ) is an urban-type settlement in the center of the Ukrainian Oblast Kharkiv with about 9,000 inhabitants (2014).
The place was founded in 1924 and received urban-type settlement status in 1959. Until May 12, 2016 the place was called Tscherwonyj Donets (Ukrainian Червоний Донець, "red Donets") and was then renamed in the course of the Ukrainian decommunization.
The village is located on the bank of the Siversky Donets across from Andriivka and is about 70 km south of the Kharkiv oblast center and 30 km west of the Balaklija district center .
Donets is the administrative center of the settlement council Municipality in Rajon Balakliia to which even the villages Dalnja Schebelynka ( Дальня Шебелинка ) Kopanka ( Копанка ) Prohres ( Прогрес ) and Chervona Hirka ( Червона Гірка ) belong.
