The Football League Third Division 1974/75 was the 48th season of the Football League Third Division as the third highest English football league . Third division champions were the Blackburn Rovers and the Plymouth Argyle and Charlton Athletic , who rank behind them, also rose to the Football League Second Division . For the three promoted teams in the following third division season 1975/76, the second division clubs FC Millwall , Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday ranked in the table below . The AFC Bournemouth , Tranmere Rovers , Watford FC and Huddersfield Town had to relegate from the Third Division to the Football League Fourth Division . Instead of these clubs, in the following season 1975/76, the fourth division champions Mansfield Town and those placed behind Shrewsbury Town , Rotherham United and Chester FC took the vacant positions.
