Frauental does not border on the municipality of Stainz, because the cadastral communities Tanzelsdorf (belongs to Groß St. Florian) and Gersdorf (belongs to Deutschlandsberg, formerly Gams) in the north of Frauental (KG Schamberg) border each other about 60 m on the course of the Vochera brook thus separating Frauental from Stainz (KG Rassach).
history
Early settlement
During the construction work on the east portal of the Koralm tunnel , culturally valuable finds were made from the early Copper Age to the late Middle Ages . In addition to settlement remains from the La Tène period , a well-preserved ceramic kiln was found in Gleinz. Finds show that the area was densely populated as early as 1600–1300 BC. In the area of Freidorf, the remains of a settlement from the La Tène period have also been published. Parts of the Frauental community are located in the Laßnitz valley in that area in which a number of archaeological sites have proven to be densely populated. The total area of archaeological excavations in this area is over 40 hectares.
In 1100 Laßnitz and Frauental were first mentioned in a document.
Altburg Gleinz
In the south of Frauental, references to an old fortification have been published for the cadastral community of Gleinz, southeast of the village of Frauenegg. On a hill in the north of the farm vlg. Kolmi (or Kulmi or "old Lechner") can be seen in the form of an irregular polygon measuring 25 by 25 meters, with a ditch-like depression in the northwest of it. These remains are interpreted as the site of the former seat of the Gleinz family. In an older publication, the seat of the Gleinzers is assumed to be at the Church of St. Ulrich near Deutschlandsberg.
Brass works, steel works, porcelain factories
In 1714 Baron Ferdinand Zehentner von Zehentgrub and others built a brass works that was in operation until 1903. In 1920 the first Austrian porcelain factory was founded in the village. This company, Ingelen-Frauenthal-Elektroporzellan, was a subsidiary of the then Ingelen group of companies (today IBIDEN Porzellanfabrik Frauenthal GmbH and PPC Insulators Austria GmbH, part of the SEVES Group).
The steel mill was only in operation from 1853 to 1856. It could not be run successfully due to the poor transport connections (the Wieserbahn did not reach the area until 1872).
The community was founded in 1850
The community emerged in 1850 from the cadastral communities Laßnitz and Schamberg. Until 1955 it was called the municipality of Laßnitz. The postmark at the end of the 19th century bore the name "Frauenthal zu Lassnitz".
Another name for the place was "Frauental an der Wieserbahn".
20th century
During the National Socialist July coup on July 26, 1934, an incident between National Socialists and Heimwehr men occurred near them, which resulted in a death. At around 12:15 a.m., the National Socialists, who had previously tried in vain to storm the gendarmerie post in Gams , disarmed a three-man security guard from the Home Guard and took the men hostage. To help their comrades, a home guard station stationed in the china factory rushed up and was shot at by the National Socialists, and their commander was killed.
On January 1, 1956, the community name was changed from "Laßnitz" to Frauental an der Laßnitz (without "h").
On January 1, 1960, the communities Freidorf an der Laßnitz and Zeierling were incorporated into Frauental an der Laßnitz.
In 1972 the place was hit by a hundred-year flood with severe flooding.
The market survey took place in 1985.
Culture and sights
- Parish church Frauental an der Laßnitz : The church has the patronage of the motherhood of Mary . It was built in 1954, the parish was established in 1958 from parts of the former parishes of Gams, Groß St. Florian and Deutschlandsberg. The altar from the middle of the 17th century comes from the hospital church in Bruck an der Mur , two statues of saints from the 1st half of the 18th century from Osterwitz . The organ was purchased in 1960, the four bells in 1962.
- Frauenthal Castle : It is believed to have been at the site of the Nidrinhof , mentioned in a document in 970 , which is said to have been founded around 700 AD from Aquileia , which at that time carried out the Christian missionary work for the Kingdom of Noricum . In 1267 the name Vraundorf (Frauendorf) appears. In the Middle Ages there was a farm in Ortisei there or near the Ulrichskirchlein . It was expanded into a nobility seat in 1542 and expanded in 1675. Up until the 17th century the estate and the castle were also named after St. Ulrich. The castle chapel is dedicated to St. Joseph . After economic decline due to a lavish administration and family disputes, the administrator of the brass factory was appointed curator of the estate in 1741. From 1812 to 1820 the castle experienced its heyday under its owner Moritz Graf von Fries . In 1820 the Liechtenstein family came into possession of the castle.
- The branch church St. Ulrich am Ulrichsberg was a branch church of Groß St. Florian until 1786 and now belongs to the parish of Deutschlandsberg. It was previously dedicated to St. Mark , the founder of the Patriarchate of Aquileia and the patron of the Republic of Venice . The church was first mentioned in 1313 (or 1144), its core was Gothic, later redesigned in Baroque style. On its tower is a Roman stone with bust portraits of the Calandinus couple from the 2nd to 3rd centuries. The inscription on the stone reads: "Publius Albinus Calendinus erected this monument to himself and his 40-year-old wife Silvia Ursula during their lifetime."
- Chapels are located at the brass factory (a bell was consecrated in 1724), the Sorgerkapelle was built in 1816. The Strutz chapel dates from 1846 and was rebuilt in 1975. Village chapels are located in Zeierling, Freidorf, Gleinz and Schamberg.

In the period after the Second World War, too, the number of community citizens in Frauental only rose sharply, and has increased slightly since the 1970s. The population has been falling since 2001, as both the birth balance and the migration balance became negative.

The largest employers include the companies that emerged from the Frauenthal porcelain factory : This company was founded in 1921 as the “First Austrian Porcelain Factory”. It specialized in insulators , but also produced porcelain tableware and other technical ceramics such as ceramic catalysts . These companies belonged to Frauenthal Holding AG until 2012 , with effect from June 1, 2012, they were sold to the Japanese group IBIDEN.

The most important road connection is the Radlpass Straße B 76. Via the Frauental-Bad Gams railway stop on the Graz-Köflacher-Bahn (hourly as part of the S 6 line) and the Graz – Stainz – Deutschlandsberg bus line of the GKB , Frauental is with the towns in the vicinity and connected to the provincial capital Graz .
