The Heerestruppenbrigade ( HTrBrig ) (until June 30, 2008: Heerestruppenkommando - HTrKdo ), based in Bruchsal, was a brigade of the German army . The brigade was part of the Air Mobile Operations Division and led combat and command support troops of various branches of service, which the brigade made available to other large units if necessary.

The brigade was initially set up on March 6, 2002 as a division-equivalent command authority . As part of the transformation of the German Armed Forces , the command known as the Army Troop Command was converted into a brigade equivalent on December 10, 2007, and renamed the Army Troop Brigade on July 1, 2008. On October 26, 2011 the dissolution of HTrBrig was announced. It was completely dissolved on December 31, 2012.

Association badge and motto

The association badge (sleeve badge) shows two crossed swords on a black, red and blue background in the coat of arms. The crossed swords represent the parts of the army. The color black symbolizes the engineering corps, red the artillery , Heeresflugabwehr- and the NBC defense troops . Blue stands for the logistics team . This means that the weapon color of the subordinate troops in the division-equivalent army troop command is shown in the coat of arms. As is customary for a departmental level, the coat of arms is framed with a silver cord with black thread woven into it. The formerly subordinate brigades introduced an association badge that was identical except for the border, which was usually bordered in the respective weapon color. The coat of arms remains unchanged even after reclassification to a brigade equivalent.

The internal association badge of the staff shows the crown on a white background from the coat of arms of Koblenz - the original seat of the staff - in front of the crossed swords that symbolize the army.

The motto of the command was "Viribus unitis - with united forces".

The brigade led combat support troops to carry out stabilization operations, in particular anti-aircraft, artillery and NBC defense forces that were otherwise not available to the higher-level Air Mobility Operations division or the brigades of the 13th Armored Infantry Division and 10th Armored Division classified as stabilization forces . The forces could be used in a modular manner and thus provided as a reactive and flexible reinforcement of the stabilization force brigades, which, if necessary , were to be commanded by a "headquarters" of the Air Mobility Operations division.

history

As a division equivalent

The brigade was put into service as a division equivalent on March 6, 2002 in Koblenz under the name Heerestruppenkommando . In this structure it was the largest command authority of the army of the Bundeswehr with approx. 17,900 soldiers and approx. 18,000 reservists . The Army Command was directly subordinate to the Army Command and worked together with divisions , multinational corps headquarters and military schools as well as the armed forces base and the Central Medical Service of the Bundeswehr . The headquarters of the staff was Koblenz. The area of responsibility included the situation and order-dependent support of the mechanized divisions of the army and the multinational corps in action, during training and during exercises with combat support and logistics forces. Furthermore, the army troop command ran six regional repair centers until the Heeresinstandsetzunglogistik GmbH was established . In total, the Army Command was subordinate to 75 agencies, including 21 active battalions , with up to 26,000 soldiers and 30,000 reservists. It was represented at 33 locations throughout the Federal Republic of Germany . At the top was a commander with the rank of major general , most recently Major General Ernst Heinrich Lutz .

In 2002 the Army Music Corps 300, the Air Defense Regiment 2, Pioneer Brigade 20 (renamed Pioneer Brigade 100 ) to HTrKdo. By 2003, the Artillery Brigade 100 , the Logistics Brigade 100 , the Logistics Brigade 200 , the NBC Defense Brigade 100, the Air Defense Regiment 100 (decommissioned Mixed Air Defense Regiment) and the Bundeswehr Field Intelligence Center were put into service. The army troop command last led as a division equivalent:

  • The anti-aircraft brigade 100 was disbanded in 2007 and parts were transferred to other units:
    • The light anti-aircraft missile battery 100 (Borken) was transferred to the special operations division as anti-aircraft missile battery 100
    • The light anti-aircraft missile training battery 610 (Lütjenburg) switched to the 1st Panzer Division as a light anti-aircraft missile training battery 610
    • The anti-tank gun training battalion 6 (Lütjenburg) transferred to the 1st Panzer Division as the 6th anti-tank training regiment
    • Anti-aircraft gun battalion 12 and light anti-aircraft missile battery 300 are also part of the "new" army command
  • The 100 Artillery Brigade was partially subordinated to the 100 Artillery Regiment and the 1st Panzer Division in 2007.
  • In 2007, parts of the Pioneer Brigade 100 were subordinated to the 1st Panzer Division under the new designation Pioneer Regiment 100.
  • Some of the NBC defense forces of NBC Defense Brigade 100 (NBC Defense Battalion 7 and NBC Defense Company 110) were transferred to the 1st Armored Division in 2005
    • The light NBC defense company 120 and the NBC defense battalion 750 (new name NBC defense regiment "750" Baden) were still part of the army brigade
  • Army Music Corps 300 was placed under the Special Operations Division
  • The long-term storage and mobilization base directly from the Army Forces Command out
  • In the course of the establishment of the Army Reconnaissance Force, the field intelligence center of the Bundeswehr was subordinated to the newly established Army Reconnaissance Force Training Center , which takes on parts of the training assignment, and was dissolved on March 30, 2008. The field intelligence staff are also partially assigned to the divisions.

The “old” army command was reorganized as a brigade equivalent on December 10, 2007 as part of the transformation of the Bundeswehr and placed under the Air Mobility Operations division. The staff moved to Bruchsal . The name was initially not changed.

As a brigade equivalent

The brigade-equivalent service center was put into service on December 10, 2007 through the reorganization of the "old" army command and the dissolution of the NBC Defense Brigade 100. Almost all of the troops that were subordinate to them at the beginning were taken over by the old army command, with the corresponding higher-level brigades and their former units that were no longer subordinate to them or that had previously been transferred to other units. Only the Artillery Training Regiment 345 (formerly Panzerartilleriel Lehrbataillon 345) changed from the Panzer Grenadier Brigade 30 on January 1, 2008 . The name was changed to the "Army Troop Brigade" on July 1, 2008.

The brigade equivalent command or the army brigade has been commanded by an officer in the rank of colonel or brigadier general since the reclassification .

Dissolution and reclassification

On October 26, 2011 the dissolution of HTrBrig was announced. The NBC Defense Command of the Bundeswehr in Bruchsal will grow out of its personnel, which will lead all NBC defense forces of the Bundeswehr and will be subordinate to the newly established Territorial Tasks Command of the Bundeswehr in Berlin . The artillery training regiment 345 is reclassified to the artillery training battalion 345 and subordinated to the 10th Panzer Division , as well (from January 1, 2014) the security battalion 12 (emerged from the Army anti-aircraft gun battalion 12 and the light anti-aircraft missile battery 200), the le ABCAbwKp 120 is dissolved. At the end of December 31, 2012, the brigade was completely dissolved. Troops that were still subordinate to this point were initially subordinated directly to the division.
