Karen is a female given name. It is the Danish, later also the English version of Katharina (from Greek the pure ).

Karen is used very often in the Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian countries. In Japan it has also become a common first name.

Karen is a male given name in Armenia.

Since the 2000s, the name Karen has developed as a popular collective term for arrogant, aggressive, complacent and racist white middle class women in the USA.
