Origin and meaning

The name form Kopp can go back to the first name Jakob or is a Low German variant of Middle Low German kop "head, cupping head " or kop (pe) "cup, drinking vessel". Another, but less common, possibility is the formation of Middle High German Koppe "Rabe" or "Koppe" " Kapaun ". Finally, the family name can have been formed as a name of origin from the place name Kopp ( Kopp in the Vulkaneifel or Kopp in Bavaria).
