Letten is a hamlet and part of the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) .

history

The place Letten was mentioned in 1451 as the farm of "Hans Hüscht in Letzen" in the fief book of the princely Kempten monastery. In 1573 Letten was a fiefdom of the prince monastery of Kempten . The Letten Castle was built towards the end of the 16th century. In 1607 Eberhard Seutter, a representative of the Seutter patrician family , was mentioned as the owner of the castle. In 1654, Prince Abbot Roman Giel von Gielsberg acquired the small castle and lived there from 1655 to 1669 during the construction of the abbot's residence in Kempten.

In 1770 the dilapidated castle was dismantled. The building material was used for the repair of the Franciscan monastery of St. Bernardine in Lenzfried .

In 1818, Letten was added to the newly created community of Sankt Mang by the Bavarian community edict, a year later statistics with a single farm and ten residents are handed down. In 1852 the stones from the castle foundation wall were used to build a second building in Letten. In 1900 there were three houses with 22 residents in Letten. In 1944 there was a bombing raid during World War II , although Latvians played an insignificant role from a strategic point of view. The bomb hits can therefore be viewed as an accidental edge drop.

In 1954, 18 people lived in Letten. In 1972 Letten was incorporated into the rural community of Sankt Mang in Kempten.
