Geographical location

Limestone is located in the northeast of Aroostook County on the border with Canada . There are several smaller lakes in the area of ​​the town. The largest is Durepo Pond in the north of the town. The town was founded on February 26, 1869. Due to its location on the rivers, Limestone owned several sawmills, where long timber and shingles were produced. In addition, a starch factory. The soil is well suited as arable land; potatoes, wheat and oats are grown. The most important field crop is the potato.

The city is known for the Loring Commerce Center (formerly Loring Air Force Base ). The Loring Job Corps Center is also located on the premises of the Airforce Base. The band Phish gave some concerts here that were followed by tens of thousands of fans.
