  • Wilhelm Bender (* 1944), 1993–2009 CEO of Fraport AG; Studied law and economics at Goethe University; since 2010 Chairman of the Board of the Association of Friends and Supporters of the Goethe University.
  • Kurt Bergel (1911–2001) was a teacher who emigrated from the German Reich and who, after an interim stay in England and further studies in the USA, taught as a professor at the private Chapman University in Orange (California) . He was an expert on the work and life of Albert Schweitzer and long-time director of The Albert Schweitzer Institute at Chapman University .
  • Kurt Biedenkopf (* 1930), German politician (CDU), 1990–2002 Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony; studied law and economics at the Goethe University from 1951–54.
  • Heike Borufka (* 1965), German journalist and author
  • Roland Bothner (* 1953), German philosopher, art historian and writer; 1978–1981 studied philosophy, comparative literature, sociology and political science at the Goethe University, and received his doctorate in 1981 at the Goethe University.
  • Hellmut JF Bredereck (1904–1981), German chemist and founder; studied chemistry at Goethe University from 1922–27.

  • Klaus Thomas Edelmann (* 1963), German journalist and design critic.
  • Tilly Edinger (1897–1967), paleontologist and founder of paleoneurology; studied and obtained his doctorate in 1921 at the Goethe University.
  • Willi Erzgräber (1926–2001), German Anglicist; studied English, German, Romance studies and philosophy at Goethe University and worked there as a university lecturer from 1966 to 1970. Previously in Saarbrücken and then professor of English literature in Freiburg.

  • Nancy Faeser (* 1970) is a German politician in the SPD, lawyer and member of the Hessian state parliament, as well as general secretary of the SPD Hesse

  • Stefan Gandler (* 1964), since 1997 Professor of Social Theory and Philosophy in Mexico; studied Philosophy , Latin American Studies , Romance Philology and Politics at the Goethe University, and was chairman of the AStA there in 1989/90 .
  • Magnus Gäfgen (* 1975), Jakob von Metzler's murderer and qualified lawyer .
  • Thomas Garms (* 1958), publicist, media entrepreneur and journalist; studied musicology, German and philosophy at the Goethe University.
  • Hermann Otto Geißler (born April 20, 1934 in Stumpertenrod am Vogelsberg) is a German Protestant pastor. He was also known through publications on the church struggle in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau.
  • Wilfried Grolig (* 1949), German diplomat and ambassador to Brazil since 2010; studied law at Goethe University from 1968–73.
  • Michael Groß (* 1964), most successful German swimming athlete and Olympic champion to date; 1986–90 studied German, political and media studies at the Goethe University and received his doctorate in 1994 from the Goethe University.
  • Sally Grosshut , actually Sally Mantel (1906–1969) was a German lawyer and writer.

  • Andreas Hackethal (* 1971), Professor of Finance and Dean of the Goethe Business School; 1990–93 studied economics at the Goethe University, received his doctorate in 1999 at the Goethe University and was habilitated in 2005 at the Goethe University.
  • Hanno Hahn (1922–1960), German art historian and architectural researcher, studied art history, classical archeology, philosophy and Italian philology at Goethe University from 1946 to 1953, and received his doctorate in 1953 under Harald Keller 'summa cum laude'. Hahn worked at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome until his death in 1960 , most recently as head of the department for southern Italian art and architecture research.
  • Daniel Hartwich (* 1978), German moderator; studied German and political science at the Goethe University.
  • Betty Heidler (* 1983), German hammer thrower, reigning vice world champion and world record holder; studied law at Goethe University from 2008 to 2013.
  • Markus Höffer-Mehlmer (* 1958), cabaret artist, journalist and educationalist; studied pedagogy at the Goethe University from 1982 to 1987.
  • Martin Hohmann (* 1948), German politician and member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2005, was expelled from the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and the CDU Hessen on October 3, 2003 because of his anti-Semitic speech on the Day of German Unity; studied law at the Goethe University.
  • Matthias Horx (* 1955), German publicist and management consultant; studied sociology and art from 1973 to 1980 for teaching at Goethe University.

  • Fritz GA Kraemer (1908-2003), Senior Civilian Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army, United States Department of Defense; studied law and then did his doctorate in 1931.

  • Heinz Riesenhuber (* 1935) is a German politician (CDU). He was the oldest member of the 17th German Bundestag (2009–13) and the 18th German Bundestag (2013–17) and served as its age president . From 1982 to 1993 he was Federal Minister for Research and Technology .
