List of local pyramids in the Eastern Ore Mountains and in Saxon Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of local pyramids in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge contains the large Christmas pyramids that are publicly financed and maintained by the public. The table does not claim to be complete. The Christmas pyramids , which were originally made for domestic use, are an integral part of customs in the Saxon Ore Mountains and have also been made as large outdoor pyramids since the 1930s. In many places, the pyramid pushing is celebrated annually around the First Advent. Most pyramids rotate until the New Year , in some places until Candlemas .

history

Up until the 1950s there were 10 pyramids in the Ore Mountains, they were still the exception. The increased expansion began in the 1960s (16 new systems were added) and in the 1970s (plus 58 new slewing gears). After the fall of the Wall, a real boom began in 1990 - almost every place in the West and East Ore Mountains built a place pyramid, the inauguration of which was then celebrated with a festive occasion. The number of local pyramids in the Erzgebirge district was 150 at the end of 2014. In addition, there are the many systems in the Eastern Ore Mountains ( district of Saxon Switzerland ) and in other cities throughout Germany. That was at least another 69 pieces at the end of 2014.

2008 The plant with a slewing ring made of 10 wooden wings is located on the forecourt to Altenberg train station. The pyramid, which is set up all year round, is divided into four floors and equipped with turned and brightly painted figures. A miners' orchestra in typical costume moves on the lower turntable. Above are the three kings . The nativity scene (Mary, Joseph, Jesus, sheep) can be seen on the third floor and three white angels with trumpets make their rounds at the top. The pyramid, below and at the height of the third floor, is equipped with 4 electric candle-shaped lights, has the shape of a winding tower and is reminiscent of the mining tradition of the place. The pyramid with a 10-part winged wreath was built by local craftsmen after the fall of the Wall and is set up on the market during Advent. Its shape corresponds to a winding tower and its four struts are made of metal. The flat figures on the first floor show the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel , on the second plate are Hans in luck , on the third plate the rabbit and hedgehog , and on the fourth probably the little table deck dich . The fifth floor is decorated by four turned miners who make music.

The city administration and the trade and industry association organize the annual boost on the Friday before the first Advent. The organizers hope that this will entice even more "Dippser" (= short for the Dippoldiswalder) out of the hut in winter.

2009 The pyramid was created according to the ideas of the BID - Initiative Breite Straße e. V. , numerous sponsors from the street and the city administration of Pirna participated in the financing and implementation. The 6.5-meter-high, three-tier pyramid was made in Pfaffroda in the Ore Mountains . The work of art with 12 wings will be set up on the square in front of the town hall during Advent. It is constructed as a typical rod pyramid with 6 inclined glazed wooden supports and has three floors and 15 turned figures. The lowest floor shows typical craft trades such as shoemaker, wagner, farrier, butcher and stollen baker, as well as folk art (carving, lace-making). The painters Canaletto and Theophilus Jacobäer (pharmacist and patron saint of Pirna) are also portrayed. In addition, there are scenes Christmas with Santa Claus, snowman, elves, on the third floor are Carolers see. On November 26, 2009, the pyramid was ceremoniously pushed for the first time. In the first year five young people destroyed a figure in the pyramid, in 2013 others wanted to stop the electric system, which they couldn't do thanks to the attention of local residents.

2010 A Pyramid interest group was founded in 2010 to plan and finance the construction.
The approximately 6 meter high pyramid with eight wings and five floors stands all year round in the center of the village near the Trinity Church. The carved figures, left in natural wood, are behind glass to protect them from the weather. They depict scenes from local history such as miners underground and above ground, forest work, family joys. The wood sculptor G. Weichelt and members of the Schmiedeberger carving group created the figures. The specially founded pyramid working group oversees the work of art. A wood-clad base hides the electrical drive technology.
The beginning of Advent is celebrated with a pyramid push. In 2014 there was an exchange of figures on the lower floor - the supervisors placed scenes from the biblical Christmas story there . In the following year, a pyramid wing damaged by a storm had to be replaced.

Outside the Ore Mountains

Pyramid at the Christmas market in Berlin in front of the Rotes Rathaus in 2008

Outside the Ore Mountains there is also the tradition of local pyramids, for example on the Striezelmarkt in Dresden, which is known as the "largest Ore Mountains step pyramid in the world" (it is 14.62 m high and entered in the Guinness Book of Records ) ( 51 ° 3 ′ 0.51 ″  N , 13 ° 44 ′ 17.12 ″  E ) There are more open-air pyramids in Dresden during Advent on Wasaplatz in the Strehlen district and at the Christmas market in front of the Frauenkirche. The pieces of jewelery are also in use in other Saxon towns (for example Eppendorf , the districts of central Saxony and Holzhau ). Even in Potsdam on the Christmas Mile (Brandenburger Strasse), in Bad Schmiedeberg in front of the Kurhaus or on the central Berlin Christmas market in front of the Red City Hall, pyramids are set up based on the Erzgebirge model. The tradition of local pyramids has even moved into western federal states: In Refrath (district of Bergisch Gladbach ) there has been a twelve-meter-high slewing gear on Peter-Bürling-Platz since 2006, which has been well received by residents and visitors. The Refrather Willi Leffelsend, operator of the local Christmas market, had this pyramid made in 2007 based on a model from Hanover . Life-size figures from the biblical Christmas story are placed on three floors, but the private operators have financial problems. In the twin town of Bad Lauchstädt , in Haan , a Peremett , which was made in Bad Lauchstädt, has also been turning on the Neuer Markt during Advent since 2000 .
