The list of the largest municipalities in the Netherlands provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger municipalities in the Netherlands. An alphabetical overview of all municipalities in the country can be found in the list of Dutch municipalities .

Municipalities by population

The capital and largest municipality of the Netherlands is Amsterdam with 855,896 inhabitants. The seat of government and third largest municipality in the country is The Hague with 531,935 inhabitants.

The following table contains the municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, the results of the official estimates by the Central Statistical Office of the Netherlands for the years 1980, 1990, 2000, 2008 and 2018 (1 January each).

The province to which the municipality belongs is also given. The population figures refer to the respective municipality within its political boundaries without the politically independent suburbs.
