Moses Norris Jr. (born November 8, 1799 in Pittsfield , Merrimack County , New Hampshire , † January 11, 1855 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He represented the state of New Hampshire in both houses of Congress .

After attending public schools and Pittsfield Academy , a private school, Norris graduated from Dartmouth College in 1828 . He studied law , was inducted into the bar in 1832 and practiced as a lawyer in Barnstead . In 1834 he returned to his hometown.

In 1837 Norris became politically active for the first time. He was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, to which he belonged until 1840. In 1842 he spent another session there. From 1841 to 1842 he was also a member of the Executive Council , the governing body of the state of New Hampshire.

On March 4, 1843, Moses Norris became a Democratic MP in the US House of Representatives , where he remained after re-election until March 3, 1847. From 1847 to 1848 he was Harry Hibbard's successor Speaker of the New Hampshire House of Representatives before he was elected to the US Senate , where he took office on March 4, 1849. There he was among other things chairman of the Committee on Claims . Shortly before the end of his six-year term, he died in Washington in January 1855. He was buried in his hometown of Pittsfield.
