history
Until the church is planted
Heinrich von Gumppenberg received on 16 October 1324 by Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria the market rights awarded for Pöttmes. Since 1281, Pöttmes has belonged to the highly free Gumppenberg family . The place was part of the Duchy of Bavaria , but formed a closed Hofmark , which had a blood court . This was awarded by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1310 and existed until the great reorganization of the judiciary in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1808. The "Galgenberg" north of Pöttmes still bears witness to this high court. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
21st century
Pöttmes made headlines across Germany on December 2, 2008, when Pastor Thomas Rein found an abandoned baby in the Christmas crib in his parish church of St. Peter and Paul.

The series of incorporations was completed on January 1, 1978 with the incorporation of Echsheim, Osterzhausen , Reicherstein and Wiesenbach .
