Nevada County is a county in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the US state of California . The county seat is Nevada City .

The county has a total area of 2524 square kilometers. Of this, 44 square kilometers are water (1.73 percent). It is bordered clockwise by the counties: Sierra County , Washoe County , Placer County, and Yuba County .
history
Nevada County was formed from parts of Yuba County in 1851 . It takes its name from the gold rush town of Nevada City , which in turn takes its name from the Sierra Nevada .
Nevada County has a National Historic Landmark , Donner Camp Sites . 22 other structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

According to the 2000 census , Nevada County had 92,033 people. There were 36,894 households and 25,936 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.39% White, 0.28% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander and 1.94% from other races Groups; 2.64% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.65% of the population.
Of the 36,894 households, 28.70% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.60% were married couples living together, 8.80% were single mothers. 29.70% were not families. 22.80% were single households and 9.80% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.88 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.10% residents under 18 years of age, 6.10% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.10% between 25 and 44 years of age, 29.30% between 45 and 64 years of age 17.40% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 98.30 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 45,864 , and the median income for a family is $ 52,697. Males had a median income of $ 40,742 versus $ 27,173 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,007. 8.10% percent of the population and 5.50% of families are below the poverty line. 9.50% of them were under 18 years of age and 4.90% were 65 years of age or older.
