Oakfield is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 737 inhabitants in 496 households on an area of 93.0 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Oakfield has an area of 93.0 km² , of which 91.0 km² consists of land and 2.0 km² of water .
Geographical location
Oakfield is in the south of Aroostoock County. The Mattawamkeag River flows south along the western border through the town's area. The surface of Oakfield is mountainous, the highest point being the 461 m high Sam Drew Mountain in the southeast. In the east above Spaulding Lake lies the 346 m high Timoney Mountain and in the south the 370 m high Oakfield Hills. Several large lakes border Oakfield. To the east of Meduxnekeag Lake , south of Mud Lake and the Skitacook Lake and north of Timoney Lake . In the area of the town, in the northwest lie the Spaulding Lake and Spaulding Lake .

history
Oakfield was organized as a plantation before it was recognized as a town on February 24, 1897. The first settlement took place in 1831. In 1910, Oakfield received a train station, which was relocated in 1942. The station building is now home to the Oakfield Historical Society.

Economy and Infrastructure
Oakfield Seeks Wind Power Generation Project ; one wind farm is due to be completed in 2015, making it the second in northern Maine.
traffic
The Interstate 95 runs the Town through the northwest corner. It connects Oakfield with the Canadian border in the east and Bangor in the south. A line of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad runs through Oakfield .
Public facilities
Oakfield does not have its own library. The closest is the Katahdin Public Library in Island Falls.
There is no hospital or medical facility in Oakfield. The closest hospital to Oakfield and the region is in Patten.
education
Oakfield is part of Regional School Unit 50 with Crystal, Dyer Brook, Hersey, Island Falls, Merrill, Moro Plantation, Mt. Chase, Patten, Sherman, Smyrna and Stacyville .
