The men's biathlon 10K sprint race at the 2010 Winter Olympics took place on February 14, 2010 at 11:15 am at the Whistler Olympic Park . The French Vincent Jay became Olympic champion . The silver medal went to the Norwegian Emil Hegle Svendsen and the bronze went to Jakov Fak from Croatia.
Competition description
The sprint was the individual discipline with the shortest running distance. The total of 10 km was divided into three equally long running laps, after the first and second laps the athletes had to hit five targets twice at the shooting range. The first time the shooting was in a lying position, the second time in a standing position. For each target not hit, the athlete had to complete a 150-meter penalty loop. The athletes started the race at an interval of 30 seconds (sometimes 15 seconds).
Total ascent: 121 m, maximum ascent: 34 m, difference in altitude: 41 m
88 participants from 32 countries, including 87 in the rating. The top 60 athletes of the sprint qualified to take part in the pursuit race .
