Philipp Weber (born September 15, 1992 in Schönebeck ) is a German handball player .
Club career
Philipp Weber has been playing handball since he was seven. Before moving to SC Magdeburg in 2003, he played in the youth team of SG Eintracht Glinde. In 2010 Philipp Weber was accepted into the 2nd team of the SCM. In order to collect more match practice at a higher level, he switched to HC Empor Rostock for the 2011/2012 season . Before he could play a game for Empor, however, he seriously injured his shoulder and had to undergo an operation. The contract with HC Empor Rostock was terminated in the summer of 2011 and Weber returned to SC Magdeburg, where he began a commercial training in the SC Magdeburg office and signed a contract until 2014.
After surviving the injury break, he was given a second game right for SC DHfK Leipzig in January 2012 . Weber made his Bundesliga debut for SC Magdeburg on February 8, 2012 at 28:25 against TuS N-Lübbecke . Three days later he completed his first EHF Cup game for SC Magdeburg at 33:31 against RK Našice . He made his debut for SC Magdeburg before he could make his planned debut for SC DHfK Leipzig.
In May 2012 it was announced that Philipp Weber would not play in Leipzig for one year as planned. The reason for this personal decision was that Marko Bezjak was only due to move to SC Magdeburg in the 2013/14 season and he was therefore the second playmaker alongside Stian Tønnesen in the SCM squad.
In January 2013 Philipp Weber had to undergo another shoulder operation and the season was over for him. For the 2013/14 season, his contract with SC Magdeburg was formally terminated. The aim was to give him the opportunity to return to the game after his injury in a second division club. In June 2013 he signed a contract with SC DHfK Leipzig and rose with them to the 1st Bundesliga, where he then played for the Saxons for another year.
In the summer of 2016, Philipp Weber moved to HSG Wetzlar for one season and was the top scorer in the Bundesliga there. For the 2017/18 season he returned to SC DHfK Leipzig.
National team
Philipp Weber completed 68 youth internationals for the DHB selection. At a five-nation tournament in Poland in 2012, he was voted the best player of the tournament. He scored 29 goals in four wins against Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Portugal in this tournament.
On January 3, 2017, he made his international debut against Romania . He scored his first goal for the national team in his second international match, a friendly against Sweden . For the European Championship 2018 he was appointed to the 20-man squad by national coach Christian Prokop , who did the preparation. On January 7th, he was appointed to the final 16-man squad and thus took part in the EM 2018. He has completed 31 games so far in which he scored 83 goals.
