Sonora , officially Município de Sonora , is a city in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the Mesoregion Central-Nord in the microregion Alto Taquari .

The city is 363 km from the capital of the state ( Campo Grande ) and 925 km from the state capital ( Brasília ). Neighboring cities are Itiquira in the north, Pedro Gomes and Coxim in the south, Alto Araguaia in the east and Corumbá and Coxim in the west.
Waters
The city is under the influence of the Rio Paraná , which is part of the river system of the Río de la Plata . The main rivers are:
- Rio Correntes : left tributary of the Rio Itiquira . It is 240 km long.
- Rio Piquiri : left tributary of the Rio Correntes, which rises in Sonora
