Writers with Drinks
Writers with Drinks (abbreviated WWD) is a stage show with a colorful mixture of author reading , comedy and variety , which takes place for the first time in 2001 and monthly since 2002, initially in different locations and since 2004 in the nightclub The Make Out Room in San Francisco .
The organizer, Mistress of Ceremonies and Conférencieuse is the writer Charlie Jane Anders . Among other things, because of Anders' weird, often surreal ideas of her guests, the show has cult status in the San Francisco Bay Area and was accordingly awarded four times from 2005 to 2008 with the Best of the Bay Award from the San Francisco Bay Guardian and in 2009 with the Emperor Norton Award for “extraordinary inventiveness and creativity not hampered by poor reason”.
The usually half dozen guests are writers, poets, word artists, publicists, journalists and bloggers from various genres, namely fiction , poetry , stand-up comedy , erotic and pornography , science fiction and fantasy , memoirs , biographies , and essays Non-fiction .
With the profit from the event, the magazine Other , published by Charlie Jane Anders together with her partner Annalee Newitz , was financed until 2008 , and since then it has benefited Carol Queen's project Center for Sex & Culture .
There were also WWD shows in New York City and Chicago in 2016 .
