Woodland is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . It is part of what is known as the Swedish Colony in Maine. In 2010 there were 1213 inhabitants in 586 households on an area of ​​91.3 km².

history

The original name for this area was Township No. 14, Third Range West of the Easterly Line of the State (T14 R3 WELS). In 1861 the area was organized as a Woodland Plantation , this was legalized in 1878. A first survey of the area took place in November 1877 by Edwin C. Burleigh. Woodland was recognized as a town on March 5, 1880. The name was given due to the local conditions. The Snowman School House , founded in 1895 by a certain David Snowman and named after him, is still well preserved today and serves as a museum.
