Astrid is a Danish-Swedish movie from 2018 . The film is a free interpretation of Astrid Lindgren's early years and is set mainly between 1925 and 1930. The film was released in German cinemas on December 6, 2018.

Astrid and her siblings grow up on their parents' parish farm in Vimmerby . Mother Hanna and father Samuel give them security and a sense of freedom in their strictly religious daily routine. Astrid starts a job as a volunteer in the editorial office of the local newspaper and becomes pregnant by the owner of the newspaper. He implores her not to give birth to the child in Sweden because his wife could then accuse him of fornication and he would have to go to prison for that.
So she travels to Denmark , gives birth to her son Lasse and leaves him with the foster mother Marie. The legal disputes drag on for three years. She then rejects the child's father's request to marry him, even though she is penniless.
She finds a job at the book trade center and can rent an apartment in which Lasse will also live. But her child has got so used to Marie that she leaves it with the foster mother with a heavy heart. In 1928 she became a secretary in the “Royal Automobile Club”. During this time, Marie's illness falls, which means she can no longer look after Lasse. Astrid takes him over and they both get used to each other.
The pertussis disease infection passage brings Astrid the limit of their powers, so that she falls asleep in the office over the typewriter. Her boss, the office manager Sture Lindgren , sends her home and also pays a doctor for Lasse.
Astrid also comes to terms with her strictly religious parents. She visits her in her home village and when she goes to church, Astrid's mother proudly carries her grandson Lasse to church.
The framework story shows old Astrid Lindgren, who sits at her desk and reads mail from children from all over the world. Ane Brun's song "Springa" closes the film with pictures of the happy times of Astrid and Lasse.
