Chastel ( Occitan identical) is a French municipality with 129 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Brioude and is part of the canton Pays de Lafayette (until 2015 Pinols ).

Chastel is located about 44 kilometers west-northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay on the Cronce River . Chastel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chazelles in the north, Cronce in the east and northeast, Pinols in the east and southeast, Clavières in the south, Védrines-Saint-Loup in the west, Soulages in the west and northwest and Rageade in the northwest.
