- Taipei / Taiwan : In the parliamentary elections in Taiwan , the Democratic Progressive Party of President Chen Shui-bian , who was elected last year, wins additional votes, but the parties in opposition to the government retain a narrow majority.
Sunday December 2, 2001
- Bern / Switzerland : In a referendum, only 20% of the electorate support the abolition of the Swiss Army . It was the group's second abolition initiative for a Switzerland without an army .
- Houston / United States : One of the largest US energy companies, Enron , files for bankruptcy. There are rumors of massive accounting falsification and insider trading. Around 20,000 employees lose their jobs.
Wednesday 5th December 2001
- Maputo / Mozambique : Joaquim Alberto Chissano , President of the Mozambican Liberation Front , who has been in office since 1986, won the run-off election against Afonso Dhlakama from the Mozambique National Resistance Party with around 52% of the votes .
- Sri Jayewardenepura / Sri Lanka : In the parliamentary elections , the opposition coalition of the United National Front won significantly more votes than in the last election , but missed an absolute majority. The People's Alliance, as the strongest force in the previous government coalition, has lost almost 8 percentage points of the vote and has the second most votes with a good 37%.

- Brussels / Belgium : The EU-Japan Action Plan is adopted. It provides for the deepening of economic relations, security cooperation and more cultural exchange.
- Oberhausen / Germany : The Ukrainian boxer Vitali Klitschko wins his fight against Ross Puritty from the United States by technical knockout and is now considered a challenger to the world heavyweight title of the WBC association . Puritty inflicted the first loss in his professional career on Vitali's brother Wladimir in 1998.

- Geneva / Switzerland : The People's Republic of China , largely isolated from the world economy until the mid-1980s, joins the World Trade Organization (WTO). So she accepts u. a. the General Agreement on Trade in Services and the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights .

- Berlin / Germany : The nuclear phase-out law passes the Bundestag and the necessary approval of the Bundesrat appears to be assured because of the party affiliations there.
