The Austrian euro coins are in Austria brought on 1 January 2002 into circulation Euro coins of the common European currency Euro . The euro has been valid in Austria since January 1st, 1999 (accession to the euro zone ).
Circulation coins
Austrian euro coins have different designs for each coin, with a common leitmotif for each of the three coin series. The small coins show Austrian flowers, symbolic for the environment. The middle show examples of Austrian architecture, spread over the ages. The two large coins show famous people. All motifs come from the hand of Josef Kaiser and show the twelve stars, the year of issue and the flag of Austria . According to the heraldic rules of tinging , the color sequence red-white-red is shown by hatching, but the 50-cent coin has the color sequence blue-white-blue (which would correspond to that of the flag of El Salvador due to the representation rotated by 90 ° ). The value is shown again on all coins, with the word Eurocent being executed as Euro Cent .
All Austrian coins are minted in the Austrian Mint in Vienna, which began producing euro coins in November 1998. However, all coins minted between 1998 and 2002 bear the year 2002.
The eight motifs of the Austrian euro coins are:
- 1 cent: gentian
- 2 cents: edelweiss
- 5 cents: Alpine primrose
- 10 cents: St. Stephen's Cathedral
- 20 cents: Belvedere Palace
- 50 cents: Vienna Secession building
- 1 Euro: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , based on a painting by Barbara Krafft from 1819
- 2 euros: Bertha von Suttner
The front of the euro coins, which was redesigned from 2007 (new map of Europe), was only introduced in Austria in 2008.

The Austrian small coin set (abbreviated KMS , 1 cent to 2 euros) is also issued in full, in a limited edition and with a higher mint quality (hand lifted or polished plate ). Since 2011, the current coin sets are offered in a polished plate in a packaging with a new design. The folders of the coins in hand-picked quality are dedicated to a specific theme each year. A baby euro coin set has been published annually since 2012 , which, like the Austrian small coin set, contains all circulation coins from 1 cent to 2 euros in hand-made mint quality. The Austrian small coin set and the baby euro coin set have the same issue date. In 2014 the year record “43. World Money Fair - Berlin ”with an edition of 2500 pieces, but is not mentioned below.

Consistent with the design guidelines
The Austrian euro coins do not fully comply with the design guidelines issued by the European Commission in 2008. These contain recommendations for the design of the national sides of the currency coins. Among other things, no information about the face value of the coin should be given on the national side of the euro coins and the denomination of the currency or its subdivision should not be repeated unless the information is given in a different alphabet. This is not observed by the Austrian circulation coins. The Austrian flag shown does not represent a country identifier in the sense of the guidelines. The countries whose coins do not yet comply with the recommendations can make the necessary adjustments at any time; by the end of the transition period, June 20, 2062 at the latest, they must complete this.

The following is a list of the editions of the individual euro coins. In these circulation figures, the coins in the small coin sets are included (both hand-lifted and polished plates and from 2012 also 5000 pieces of the baby euro coin set; in 2014 also the 2500 pieces from the year set “43rd World Money Fair - Berlin ").

Number of coin issues
The following is a list of the individual coin issues per year, sorted once by metal, once sorted by the value of the coins (including the Philharmonic and 2 euro commemorative coins; the year is decisive, not the date of issue - which is especially important for New Year coins ). Since the 5 euro coins have been appearing in both copper and silver since 2011 and the 10 euro coins since 2012, these coins could also be counted twice (once for copper and once for silver, respectively . twice each at 5 euros and 10 euros). In the table below, these coins are counted as silver coins only. If you also want to count the copper coins, the values in the round brackets apply. Since 2017, 10 euro silver coins in a polished plate have been colored, while the hand-lifted 10 euro silver coins have remained colorless. If you want to add these colored coins, the values in square brackets apply:

Wiener Philharmoniker
→ Main article: Vienna Philharmonic
In 1989 the Austrian Mint started minting the Vienna Philharmonic investment coin. Initially in schillings and since 2002 in euros. There is a silver version with a face value of 1.50 euros and since 2014 five denominations in gold with face values from 4 to 100 euros. In 2004, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Vienna Gold Philharmonic, a one-time 1000-ounce version with a face value of 100,000 euros and an edition of 15 pieces was minted. In 2009, for the twentieth anniversary, 20 ounce gold coins were issued with a face value of 2000 euros and a mintage of 6027 pieces (three times in 2009, each in 2009 were sold to Europe, America and Asia (Japan)). In 2016, the Austrian Mint began minting a platinum version of the Vienna Philharmonic with a face value of 100 euros. From 2017 there will also be a platinum coin with a face value of 4 euros.
