The Italian euro coins are in Italy in circulation Euro coins of the common European currency Euro . On January 1, 1999, Italy joined the euro zone , which made the introduction of the euro valid as the future currency.

Circulation coins

The Italian coins are minted in the “Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato” in Rome. The minting began in September 1999, but the coins minted from 1999 to 2002 were given the year of first issue 2002.

All Italian euro coins have a different motif, but all show a famous building or work of art as the theme. All designs contain the twelve stars of the EU, the year of issue and the overlapping letters RI for Repubblica Italiana (Italian Republic). Each coin was designed by a different artist.

The eight motifs of the Italian euro coins are:

The front of the euro coins, which was redesigned from 2007 onwards (new map of Europe), was only introduced in Italy in 2008.
