At the EHF Champions League 2004/05 37 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who had qualified in the previous season in their home leagues for the competition. It was the 45th edition of the EHF Champions League or the European Cup of National Champions. The defending champion was the Slovenian club RK Celje . The cup games began on September 11, 2004, the second final took place on May 7, 2005. In the final, FC Barcelona prevailed against BM Ciudad Real .
mode
A qualifying round was played in a knockout system with a return leg of the lower ranked clubs. The winners made it to the group stage and the losers to the second round of the 2004/05 EHF Cup . In the group stage with eight groups of four teams each, everyone in the group played a game against each other. The two best in the group made it to the round of 16 and the third group played in the round of 16 of the 2004/05 European Cup Winners' Cup . From the round of 16 onwards, a knockout system was played with a return leg. The winner of the final was the EHF Champions League winner of the 2004/05 season.
