The “Holy Grave” (or Janovické poustevny (the Johnsdorf Hermitage)) and the old cemetery, which is still used for burials, are particularly worth seeing in Janovice.

The Johnsdorfer Einsiedelei´ (Janovické poustevny) is located in a mountain cut in the valley of the Dubnický potok (Hennersdorfer Bach) and about 500 meters southwest of the place Janovice v Podještědí (Johnsdorf).

Oral tradition says that there was a hermit hermitage here as early as the middle of the 18th century.

When the monastery of Jablonné v Podještědí (German fork) was dissolved in 1788, the monks Thomas and Valerian moved to this place, built a log house and carved small chambers into the sandstone rocks. From then on they devoted themselves to healing arts and religious instruction in the school in Janovice. After her death, she was buried near the hermitage.

This place was consecrated with a pilgrimage in 1834 and since then pilgrimages have taken place every year. The owner of the property Anton Rudolf from Johnsdorf (house number 14) built the Kalvarienberg (step mountain) in 1864 and carved a divine grave in the sandstone rock. He hung pictures of the Stations of the Cross on the surrounding trees.

In the rocks at the edge of the forest, some niches for statues and images of saints and in the lower part the grotto of the Holy Sepulcher are carved out of the sandstone.

The tradition of pilgrimages continued until 1944. After the end of the Second World War, the tradition flared up again briefly, but - like the place itself - was more and more forgotten.

Since the end of the 20th century, the residents of Janovice have again developed an interest in the Holy Sepulcher and it has been restored with simple means.

In front of the rock there is a leveled area and next to it rises the Stationsberg with a wooden cross on the summit. The pictures of the Way of the Cross, which were inaugurated on July 5, 2005, are located along the stone steps to the summit.

The small chambers of the former hermitage carved into the low sandstone are in the forest opposite.
