The place was first mentioned in 1352 as Ossieczna (Oschietschna). The spelling of the name changed to Ossyeczna by 1427, Oschicz appeared in 1582, Oschwitz in 1654 and Oschitz from 1698 to 1945. The local parish church had its own pastor as early as 1384, who was expelled during the Hussite War.

The village belonged to the nearby town of Lázně Kundratice , where a small mud bath was built in the 19th century . It was part of the manor Dewin and was subordinate to the changing fiefdoms there until 1848. Until 1769 it was a place of jury trial with an execution place on Galgenberg, the later "Schillerhöhe".

In 1576, Emperor Rudolf II granted the place city rights . He also confirmed the city arms. The church patronage Mr. Hans von Oppersdorff awarded during this period the urban inn, which existed until 1968, the privilege of three golden scallops, characteristic of the way of pilgrims to perform as tavern sign. After the destruction of the Thirty Years' War, the tax roll of 1654 for Osečná counted 23 citizens, 15 chaluppers and 21 field gardeners. The cadastre from 1713 names 43 citizens, two field gardeners and 48 cottagers. The city register was created in 1548 and kept completely until 1860. On June 11, 1825, there was a devastating fire in the town, in which the town hall, the parish, the church tower and 25 houses burned down and the church bells melted. In 1857 there was a second major fire accident that destroyed the town mill and 7 houses.

Osečná was after the end of the hereditary subjection of the revolutionary year 1848 a municipality in the judicial district Niemes or in the Bohemian Leipa district and had no special political importance in northern Bohemia as an agricultural town. In 1680 and 1776, peasant revolts against hereditary servitude, forced labor , impoverishment and inhuman treatment by the authorities were suppressed by force of arms. In the 20th century with the beginning of tourism, Osečná became a summer resort for nature-loving tourists of the migratory bird movement and until 1945 had mostly German-speaking land and house owners.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was the German Reich slammed and belonged until 1945 to the district Reichenberg , Region of Usti nad Labem , in the Reich District of Sudetenland .

After the Second World War, most of the German residents were expelled . Today, in addition to agriculture, the supply and hospitality of holidaymakers is a main source of income.
